Where arcane rituals are practiced often and with conviction, both magic and intent can seep into the environment. Over time, the site of such rituals might start to take on a life of its own, leading to the creation of an altar golem. Such a golem is usually comprised of whatever was of relevance to the ceremony, such as an altar, standing stones, statues, or ancient trees, as well as the ground on which they stood.

 Altar golems are infused with the resolve of the rites that fuelled their awakening, and as such tend to share the alignment and goals of whoever performed the rituals. For example, an altar golem that has been instilled with ceremonies and prayers to protect a remote village, will see it as its prime duty to guard said settlement. While the creation of an altar golem is often done inadvertently, there are those who seek to purposefully rouse one, causing golem’s goal to instead be obedience to their creator.

An altar golem still brims over with the magic that called it to life, allowing it to cast spells and occasionally let out bursts of raw arcane energy.
