Sting

Never bury a friend in the desert, or you might soon see their bones on the back of a boneweaver. These sand-dwelling monstrosities prey on near any live creature in order to sate their insatiable appetite and reinforce their defences. The combination of their strong claws, poisonous stinger and bone-covered back make their appearance alone enough to inspire fear in anyone who crosses their path.

 Boneweavers have no natural carapace of their own, and are extremely vulnerable in their youth. They've adapted to this natural weakness by covering their back with bones, held in place through a thick mucus which they apply with their stinger. This can also work to their advantage when ambushing prey, as they can hide just under the desert surface, leaving only the bones on their back to stick out and attract scavengers.
