A fool scarecrow is an unholy construct that has been infused with the soul of a court jester. A jester that has gravely offended the wrong individual, such as a hag or fey lord, may be punished in such a way; sentenced to death and then reanimated in a new, twisted form. Fool scarecrows are often destined to serve as sardonic guardians, protecting fields of crops or royal grounds for their cruel masters. Fool scarecrows retain full awareness of their past lives, though their personalities have been permanently darkened by their transformations. They use their humor as a relief for their own pain as well as an outlet for the suffering they must share with others. As they have been banished from the courts they used to serve, the paradox of the fool scarecrow is their need for dark performance, but with seldom an audience to perform for. As such, fool scarecrows take great pleasure in toying with their prey, delighting in psychological as well as physical torture before snuffing the life out of their victims.
